I recently read a quote that made so much sense, “You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first!” Not meaning to, I sometimes place self-care at the bottom of my list and don’t take the time for it. Motherhood is such a blessing for me, and I am so incredibly honored to have been chosen to have two of the sweetest little boys. While it is a reward it can also be tiring and I often find myself empty because I have poured everything out for others.
One thing that quarantine showed me was that I desperately needed to start doing things for myself. I realized I didn’t need to pour everything I had out for others and not also take care of myself as well. I know as a mother I am not the only one who often neglects myself and pours everything I have out for my family. So I wanted to share a list of ideas I have come up with that could help us all get started on the road to self-care.
I have now made it a goal to start taking the time each day to practice self-care so I can be the best mom, wife, and person I can be. My personal favorites that I have started are listed below.
Journaling
Recently I purchased a journal and have found that journaling is one of the best ways for me to practice self-care. Getting my thoughts and feelings on paper helps me feel lighter and less anxious. It also allows me to see personal growth in myself.
Yoga
Practicing yoga can help to center your attention and relieve stress. It relaxes your mind and helps you to concentrate.
Unplug from social media
“Comparison is the thief of joy!” I have found myself scrolling through social media and comparing myself to everyone that I follow. Unplugging from social media for a day or maybe even a week can be so healthy for self-care and help you to realize how beautiful your own life is.
Diffuse your favorite oil
Studies have shown that some oils have proven to uplift your mood and spirits. Diffusing oils can help relieve stress, anxiety, and tension you may be under.
Buy yourself flowers
Purchase yourself some beautiful bright flowers to place in the room of your choice. To me it is the perfect act of self-love and is sure to boost your mood.
What are some things that you do to practice self-care? We would love to hear them! Use the #hyggehauslife to let us know.
