2020 has been a year of uncertainties. Events and so many traditions have had to be postponed or cancelled. We’ve been separated from loved ones, had to quarantine, and it truly has been mentally hard for so many. Despite all of that, there is still so much to celebrate and to be thankful for this Christmas. So let’s keep the magic alive and see our children’s eyes light up even more this 2020 Christmas season.
Start off the season by decorating your home early. You don’t have to go full on “Griswold” if that isn’t your type of personality, but add some extra lights or decorations this year. String pop-corn garland on the tree, and make fun DIY Christmas projects to add to the magic and anticipation of the holiday season.
If you are not going to be able to spend the holidays with your loved ones, plan a Zoom Christmas party. Send invites, goody bags, have drinks together, and dress up. Distance may keep us apart physically during this time, but thanks to technology we can still see their smiling faces and hear their voices.
Countdown to Christmas using a Hyggehaus Advent calendar! This is one thing we started last year with our children and it made the season so much fun. Each morning they would wake up to see what surprise or activity was in the advent for that day. What made it extra special is this is also another DIY activity that the kids can get involved in!
Mail Christmas cards. I believe this is one of the traditions that has gotten away from so many of us due to hectic schedules and the convenience of posting holiday wishes to social media instead. The truth is though, there are so many who truly look forward to receiving Christmas cards. So this year, I am making it my personal goal to send out Christmas cards and hopefully bring a smile to the faces of a few loved ones.
Dress the kids up in their cute Christmas pajamas and drive around looking for Christmas lights. When you are finished, come home and have a movie night complete with popcorn and hot cocoa.
Bake Christmas goodies. There are so many delicious Christmas recipes to choose from. My favorite would be home-made sugar cookies. Click here for a delicious recipe for some of the best sugar cookies you will ever eat! Get the kids involved and let them help as well.
There are so many things we can do to keep the Christmas magic alive this year despite restrictions still being in place. It’s important that we stay determined to make the most of this Christmas not only for our families but other families as well. This season more than ever there are so many who are doing without. Consider donating to a charity if you feel led to do so. It will bring you so much joy to be able to help others that may not be as fortunate.
How do you plan to keep the Christmas magic alive this year? We would love it if you would share your ideas with us using the #hyggehauslife
